There is no reason for girls not to thrive as creators of technology as well as consumers of it. Practical training, competition and role models like those brought to Acorn Aspirations will make a difference.

I took part in two Acorn Hacks and they were both brilliant. Seeing young people build early stage tech apps, platform and products is very inspiring.

It was very interesting to learn the process of developing software and managing a team. I had never previously heard of agile management and SCRUM and will mention it in my personal statement for uni as I am applying for computer science and management. Another very useful thing I learnt was the different tools available to create prototypes such as Marvel

Very inspiring to see some of the girls confidently talking about APIs and things they most likely didn’t know about at all at the start of the hackathon!

I had no idea what to expect, in terms of event, quality of ideas from the students, and overall. Boy, was I impressed! It was incredible what these young people achieved in the space of 48 hours, with the help of developers, mentors, coders and supporters.Read more
